Dawn Hurst, Chief Executive Officer
Dawn is Equal Approach’s inspirational Chief Executive, who founded the business. Dawn left a well-respected and distinguished career within recruitment and HR, where she worked for a number of international organisations, to pursue her passion for diversity & inclusion and her drive to create a level playing field for talent with difference. As a result, Dawn established Equal Approach in order to embed inclusion within organisations, remove barriers for diverse talent and specifically championing individuals with difference to maximise their potential.
Over the last 2 years Dawn has been working across three continents, with a number academics to develop a unique Return on Inclusion Tool in order to evidence the financial impact of inclusion of an organisation’s performance.
Dawn is a registered Institute of Equality and Diversity practitioner and is a judge for a number of high profile awards and examination bodies. Dawn is a regular public speaker, trainer and contributor to thought leadership pieces on a range of topics surrounding; inclusive recruitment, diversity & inclusion and talent management & promotion.
Dawn’s specialist areas are recruitment, diversity & inclusion, behavioural science and influencing leaders’ mindsets, with qualifications in business, finance, law, marketing, and behavioural sciences, Dawn has also been involved in a significant human rights research project, and is currently learning to speak French.

Julie Patrick, Managing Director
Julie was appointed as Managing Director of Equal Approach in October 2016, and she is responsible for overseeing the Inclusive Talent side of the business. Julie has been with Equal Approach for over 10 years, where she has been instrumental in the growth of the inclusive recruitment business. Equal Approach’s award success are testament to Julie’s leadership, which has resulted in widespread recognition for a wide range of awards for inclusive recruitment.
Having joined Equal Approach in 2007 as an Administration Manager, Julie has since held several progressively senior roles within the organisation, including Relationship/ National Account Manager and Business Development Manager, and Julie was appointed as Operations Director in 2014.
Julie holds a Higher National Diploma in Business Studies & Accountancy, NVQ Diploma in Recruitment Level 3 through the Institute of Recruiters (IOR) and she has also gained a Certificate in Equality and Diversity. Prior to joining Equal Approach, Julie worked as an Office/ Administration Manager for over 15 years.

John Nixon, Chair
John was appointed as Chair of Equal Approach in April 2017, and is responsible for chairing the Equal Approach board and providing strategic direction and advice to the organisation. John was previously a Non-Executive Director at Equal Approach from 2012 to 2015, with responsibility for strategy development and implementation, business planning and coaching and mentoring the leadership team.
John is an experienced finance professional and has been a Qualified Chartered Accountant (ACA) for over 40 years.
Outside of Equal Approach, John also works as a Financial Consultant to a specialist engineering recruitment organisation. John’s previous roles have included: Interim Finance Director at an employability and skills organisation, Corporate Development Director at Remploy for 6 years, and Group Finance Director at a large recruitment organisation for over 12 years.
